Ubisoft has announced that Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege‘s Year 5, Season 2 content will see a brand-new limited-time event on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Starting on Tuesday, August 4, Rainbow Six Siege players can check out MUTE Protocol, a revamp of the tactical shooter’s Secure Area game mode.
MUTE Protocol takes Secure Area to the future, bringing a sci-fi aesthetic to the 5v5 game mode. Attackers must shut down MUTE Protocol, while Defenders must prevent the Attackers from succeeding in their mission. Though similar to Secure Area, MUTE Protocol includes a new Morphing feature that seemingly allows you to switch between Drone and Operator forms (on the Attacking side) or digitally ride through bulletproof cameras a la Watch Dogs (on the Defending side). The mode wraps up on Monday, August 17.
Only 41 of Rainbow Six Siege’s 56 Operators will be playable, with Twitch, Thatcher, Mozzie, Mute, Maestro, Valkyrie, Dokkaebi, Echo, Goyo, Clash, Montagne, Blitz, and Caveira all being gated off for “gameplay reasons.” Ubisoft didn’t specify why these 13 characters won’t be playable in MUTE Protocol. But while some Operators will be absent from the limited-time mode, MUTE Protocol does package 26 customization items to purchase, including exclusive equipment for Jackal, Lion, Ying, Kapkan, Mira, Mute, Oryx, and Vigil. These customization options, along with other “signature items,” will be 10% off for Year 5 pass owners.
