Outdoor Kitchens Now A Popular & Growing Home Option

With so many people quarantining at home, outdoor space has become increasingly important – not only for getting fresh air but to extend the indoor space, and for some, provide a place to entertain. With the continued presence of COVID-19, the CDC recommends outdoor gatherings over indoor gatherings at safe numbers and at a distance. As we enter the fall and cooler months, the importance of outdoor entertaining is certainly on the rise. To entertain outdoors safely and effectively this fall, holiday and winter seasons, the outdoor space is becoming increasingly important.

All of the new products that have come on the market make outdoor kitchens more versatile and comfortable. Basil Larkin, vice president of sales for Hestan says, “We have seen a definite shift in outfitting outdoor kitchens as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. After a brief 45 day slowdown when the pandemic really came to the surface in the US, our summer orders have increased by 80 percent compared to what they have been historically. Moreover, we have maintained this throughout the remainder of the year to-date, even after the traditional grilling season has concluded in many parts of the nation.”

As the temperature goes down, fire pits and outdoor fireplaces can be used for roasting marshmallows on a chilly day but also provide warmth needed for outdoor dining and entertaining. Outdoor heaters, which are being used for outdoor dining in restaurants are also being purchased by homeowners to extend the outdoor season.

While outdoor grills are the most popular outdoor appliance, they are now becoming just a small part of some more luxurious outdoor kitchen items available.

Refrigerators and coolers will limit the need to go back into the house for cold storage items. Wine coolers, side burners vent hoods, sinks and ovens are also now available.

Some people are adding outdoor pizza ovens for a great casual dinner. According to Philip Laing of Fantana, “COVID has been devastating for some businesses, but we have been extremely blessed. Since the pandemic began our sales began to skyrocket. The outdoor scene, especially outdoor kitchens, have absolutely taken off and we are at the forefront of the boom. Pizza ovens are the new craze and Americans are beginning to view them as a necessity to add to their home experience.”

Gas Smokers are another unique cooking appliance that can be used as part of this new improved outdoor kitchen.

Outdoor bars are also becoming more sophisticated. The MoBar, manufactured in Stockholm Sweden will be available in the United Stated in 2021. Easy to move with heavy-duty wheels and ergonomic handle, they are produced with commercially graded stainless steel (allowing it to withstand all weather conditions) and offers soft-closing hinges and rotomolded insulation.

With the increased time people are spending at home, the outdoor space will continue to be an important part of the home experience. As spending more time at home becomes the new normal, outdoor living and entertaining are likely to continue, even when it is safer to go out with family and friends. These new outdoor kitchens add a new and enticing dimension to the home.
