Genshin Impacts Dragonspire Region Will Arrive In December

Genshin Impact developer Mihiyo has big plans for the future of the game, and it begins with a new region being added to the free-to-play RPG in December. Called Dragonspire, the third region is one of several new updates that will arrive soon. In a new blog post, developer Mihiyo revealed its roadmap and plans to add new content every six weeks.

“We are always experimenting with different optimization methods to bring you better content, and even now, the development of multiple versions is proceeding simultaneously to ensure that content will continue to roll out in a stable manner,” The developer explained. “In future versions, we will combine the unique cultural and calendarial features of in-game regions with dates in the real world to host unique events in Mondstadt and Liyue.”

The first of these upcoming events will be November 11’s version 1.1 update, when the Mondstadt region hosts the Ludi Harpastum and the Windbloom Festivals during the Unreconciled Stars event. Version 1.2 of Genshin Impact will launch on December 23 and will introduce the new Dragonspire region, and in February 2021 players will be able to take part in the Liyue region’s Moonchase Festival and the Lantern Rite event.

Genshin Impact has reportedly grossed over $100 million in revenue since it was released in September, while also earning a lot of attention for having gameplay and visuals similar to that of Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. According to Breath of the Wild expert Max Blumenthal, Genshin Impact may draw plenty of inspiration from the blockbuster Nintendo Switch game but it still manages to be a completely different experience.

“While the story isn’t much to write home about (even when compared to BotW’s light narrative), the pleasant visual aesthetic, involved combat, and bread-crumb exploration really pulls me into what it’s trying to do,” Blumenthal explained in a detailed comparison between the two games. “And while, yes, Genshin Impact’s BotW inspirations border on imitation, that shouldn’t inspire anger or objections. Why wouldn’t you want more games to take inspiration from one of the greatest games of all time?”
